Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage achieves treatment goals by using a combination of different modalities, including swedish massage, neuromuscular therapy, craniosacral therapy, and especially myofascial therapy. Myofascial therapy focuses on releasing restrictions in the body's connective tissue, also known as fascia. This fascia wraps around the muscles and bones, and sometimes restricts their full potential for movement. The therapist applies slow deep pressure to lengthen and rehydrate the tissue. The client is draped with a sheet and massage lotion is used.
Myofascial Therapy
Myofascial Therapy differs from a typical Deep Tissue Massage session in two ways. First, no massage lotion is used. This enables the practitioner to more effectively stretch and lengthen the tissue. Second, clients are not draped with a sheet. They receive the work wearing clothing; usually underwear (possibly shorts and a sports bra). This frees the client to get off the treatment table and move around to compare areas that have been worked to areas that still need attention. It also allows the practitioner to more clearly evaluate the client's structure before, during, and after the session.
